New Futures
PREPARATORY WORK HAS BEEN ONGOING SINCE 2004 FOR THIS REGENERATION SCHEME AND THE DELIVERY OF THIS WILL CONTINUE LONG AFTER THE NEW DEAL PROGRAMME HAS COME TO AN END.     IT IS ENVISAGED THAT THE PROGRAMME WILL TAKE APPROXIMATELY 10 TO 15 YEARS

 

INITIAL CONSULTATION

Consultation was originally carried out in 2004 and local residents were asked if they would like to see little change in the area or a big change. In 2004 local residents wanted to see a big change in the area.
 
In 2007 further consultation was carried out, over 50% of Households responded to the consultation on the 3 Estates and over 90% still wanted to see big changes in the area.
 
The proposals include: the provision of new housing, demolition of unpopular housing, a new retail facility in the form of a medium sized supermarket, new opportunities for employment, improvements to health with increased choice and quality of food and physical improvements in the area.
 
What is happening currently with the New Futures Programme
 
New Deal have contributed £15million towards the New Futures Programme, Housing Department will source £26.8 million to continue the work that has been started for the next 10/15 years.
 
Birmingham City Council in partnership with Kings Norton New Deal has appointed Birmingham based property experts DTZ to prepare a planning Framework for the 3 Estates, Kings NortonDEAL UPDATE
 
The Planning Framework will build on recent work to identify residents’ aspirations for the area and take these forward and enable regeneration programme delivery.
 
This work will be lead by Tim Johnson and Shawn Riley of DTZ and they will provide a detailed delivery plan for the following:
 
• Programme of clearance and development over the next 10-15 years;
• Phased demolition of some 826 properties, enabling the release of approximately 59 acres for redevelopment;
• Creation of at least 1,000 new dwellings for rent, shared ownership and private sale;
• Protection of the number of affordable housing units; and
• Development of a new supermarket on a site adjacent to the A441 Redditch Road and new retail facilities to serve the local community.
 
PUBLIC CONSULTATION IN SEPTEMBER 2009 ON THE NEW FUTURES PLANS FOR THE AREA
 
Residents of the 3 Estates will be invited to comment on the plans, public consultation events will take place in each of the 3 Estates starting with Primrose on 9th September, Pool Farm on 10th September and finishing with Hawkesley on 11th September, 2009.
 
The framework will be adopted by BirminghamCity Council after the consultation.
 
  • Voluntary acquisition of private homes in Primrose started last year – this will help with the demolition planning and phasing programme.
  • Programme of refurbishment to properties that will not be included in the demolition is underway.   Wates have been employed to make improvements to kitchens and bathrooms to Council properties which are not included in the New Futures Programme.
